Who am I? I am a number of things. I am a singer. I have always loved music and I sing opera. I love Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Dvorak, Borodin, and almost any other classical composer you can think of. Most people my age do not like classical music. They often find it boring and think it is for old people. They don't know what they're missing. My favorite operas are Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" or "The Magic Flute" and Bizet's "Carmen". The highest note demanded in opera is sung in the Queen of the Night aria in The Magic Flute. I highly recommend watching a video clip of this. It is extremely impressive and inspiring. I grew up listening to both of these operas as background music while I learned to walk and talk. My life would not be the same without music. I began playing flute when I was five years old and have been playing ever since. Before that, I played Suzuki violin the year I was four.
I am a student. My favorite subjects are Spanish and English. My mother is a writer and has written two novels but she has not tried to publish either one yet. I love Spanish and learning new languages. I enjoy being able to communicate with people from other countries. For example, my sister's friend from Spain visited this summer and I spoke in Spanish with her most of the time. It was great practice. My least favorite subjects are math and science. I am equally terrible at both.
I have two siblings: an older brother and an older sister. My brother attends University of Iowa for college and majored in music, linguistics, and informatics. My sister now goes to Iowa State University, after spending a year abroad in Spain. My dad is an engineer and, as I mentioned earlier, my mom is a writer. My dad is my hero. He is the most talented person I know, but also the most humble. He is truly an inspiration.
I have had many pets. I currently have a collie dog, Bailey, and a very silly cat named Bobinsky. Our other dog, Blaise, died earlier this year of old age. Bobinksi, aka Bobo, Bobi, Bobaroni, and more names than I can count, is still alive and well. He is barely two years old. He is the silliest cat I know. Every morning he meows at me when I don't wake up and he will walk on me, sit on me, and/or rub his face against mine. Every morning he also demands that I turn on the water in the sink for him to drink. He refuses to drink water out of a normal cat dish. So he drinks out of the sink and gets mad at me if I don't turn it on. Another thing he loves is being outside, but we do not allow this because he once dashed out the door on a night when coyotes were yipping under a full moon not far from our house, and he remained missing for 24 terrifying hours. Worse, we have evil neighbors to the west who kill stray cats or make them disappear. To appease Bobi, I gave him a chair pad on the basement window ledge so he can he can keep surveillance of ground squirrels and other creatures at ground level. My cat is the craziest thing, full of many weird habits and strange demands, but I love him. He is hilarious and he makes me laugh everyday. He is so sweet and he loves to be held. This makes him all the more lovable.
